At EcoDirect, we believe that businesses have a responsibility to lead within their respective communities. Through their employees, customers, and suppliers, even small businesses can make an outsized impact. Further, when companies set ambitious goals to improve the world, it challenges competitors and others to follow suit resulting in exponential outcomes.
In 2019, we established a committee to explore how EcoDirect could play a more meaningful role in protecting earth’s limited resources to help ensure a bright outlook for future generations.
To deliver on this objective, we made a promise to identify profound ways to make a difference. We decided to focus on three key areas: 1) Energy, 2) Conservation, and 3) Growth. Below are the steps that have and are taking to help us reach our goals.

Energy
- Installed heat exchanger system which increases the temperature of incoming water by up to 25 degrees without any incremental energy usage.
- 100% of energy now sourced (or offset via REC’s) from renewable sources like solar or wind-power.
Conservation
- Projected to save 30 million gallons of water in 2020 through state-of-the-art equipment and techniques. Established goal to reach 100 million per year by 2025.
- Developing and utilizing best available laundry practices to extend the life of linen by 15% or more. This will eliminate up to 7,500 pounds of new linen purchases in 2020. This may seem small but saves 112,000,000 gallons of water per year and ~60,000 kWh in energy…equivalent to 121,000 lbs. of burned coal.
- Continuing to reduce single-use plastics at our plant…with a commitment to eventually eliminate.
Growth
- Planting 500 trees per month through OneTreeplanted.org. Each tree takes out 48 lbs. of CO2 per year and has a cumulative impact. Our goal is to plant enough trees by 2030 that we will be carbon neutral.
